WHAT IS THIS SITE ABOUT?

At the time of this writing (October, 2008), if you Googled “Sam Snyder” you would find a whole herd of us on the internet. “Us” being Sam Snyders: one a “master builder” of model airplanes, one a football player, one an orthopedic surgeon, another a lawyer, and more.

I am the REAL Sam Snyder.

Well… at least to myself, I’m the real one. And I suppose to the people around me, I’m fairly real.

So, what’s the deal with this website?

Well, since 1985, I have been keeping a private journal. That is 23 years worth of writing, slightly more than half of my 45 year (at this date) existence. Half of my life has been documented, not as thoroughly as I would have liked, but documented nonetheless.

It is my intention to have this journal published on this website at some point after my… uh… after I… well… uh… after I’m dead. I don’t know how long after that time. 5 years? 10 years? 20? I don’t know. But that is the reason for this website.

In the meantime, while I’m still breathing, I am feverishly working on this website behind the scenes. I am scanning the pages of each volume of the journal so that each page of the website will contain an image of a handwritten page. Being that my handwriting is so ungodly undecipherable often, I am transcribing the pages into typed format. This is a painfully tedious effort. I recently finished volume 4 (out of 27 volumes at the present time). Volume 4 required over 20 hours of typing. It contains over 40,000 words. There are many, many more hours of work to be done. I will need to live to 100 to get it all done!

In addition to the work required for this website, I also make appearances and give presentations on the benefits and experience of personal journaling. If you or your organization are interested in such a presentation please use the contact page on this website to reach me.

Also, you can visit me at Heron Flight - the website I'm using before I'm... uh... dead.
